The first graders have been working hard brushing up on the skills they learned in Kindergarten.  We reviewed numbers to 10 and practiced the correct way to write numbers.  We are reviewing the alphabet and sounds, blending letter sounds to decode words, and the correct way to write letters.  We learned abut nouns and next week we will learn action words, or verbs.  We have learned that God created us and the world around us and that we are special and God loves us always.  We learned a song about butterflies to show how happy we are that God made us.  We have learned about rules and responsibilities at home, school and in the community.  The children especially love story time and I can tell the parents are reading to the children at home and asking questions about the story.

Next week we will celebrate the birthday of Johnny Appleseed.  We will make applesauce!

Skills to work on at home:
*  Say, not sing, the alphabet
*  Tie shoes
*  Sight words
* Math vocabulary words - there is a test on Tuesday
